Medieval History Lesson

I’m getting an electric guitar for Christmas and I do not know a thing about guitars, I really want to learn but I dont really want to get lessons because we dont have the money. Is there any site where I can learn to play electric guitar PROPERLY without paying online? Thanks.

First of all, that’s awesome that you’re getting a guitar for Christmas!! As far as learning online, there are many resources you can find online that offer free online lessons. If you want really good quality lessons though you might have to pay a bit of money for an online course.

Paid online guitar courses are pretty cheap(anywhere from $20 - $200) and can provide you with lessons for up to a year. Personally I think that is the way to go. Courses like Jamorama.com would be perfect for you I think.

   This is a very good site with lots of lessons: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ It also has a forum where you ask for advice on technique and theory.

   You can also look up videos on youtube. You can search for something like "beginner guitar lesson" etc.
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIEnzboW0Hc This guys videos are very good and contain some of the most important things you can learn; like efficient practice, posture, finger independence etc.

   The other answer sounds right, so I just wanted to say good luck and have fun. I love guitar and you probably will too. Oh, and if you want the chords to any song: http://www.chordie.com . It’s very well organized, all the chords in the song are displayed on the right and it has a wide selection. Hope that helped a little!
