Preschool music lesson?

Posted on November 8th, 2009 by admin

I am a student teacher in a public Preschool, i have to do a music lesson, but im not sure what this all entails? Does anyone have any ideas on a lesson i could do or any websites i can get a lesson off of. Oh yeah, and our weekly theme is Valentines Day.

Thank you for your help :)
Find any song and teach the children the song with movements or anything else that can help them learn something new. They can make instruments and play a tune to the song they are singing.

I dont know if they have what you are looking for but I like preschoolrainbow.org

They have alot of good things for a preschool teacher.

i need Preschool activities, crafts, games, songs, preschool lesson plans.where do i get it?

May I suggest …The Mailbox Preschool Magazines and other publications. WONDERFUL resource…one of my most used resource.

Also the internet has many ideas. I find that if you have a theme, it will narrow your search down and be more of a help to you. Just search Preschool & "theme name".

Preschool lesson ideas?

Posted on October 29th, 2009 by admin

I teach preschoolers and the theme is Insects and Bugs. I teach gross motor. Any ideas for lessons that are gross motor activities that correspond to the theme?

hey. great to "meet" a fellow preschool teacher…. what age is your class? read a book about caterpillars ( in know there are a lot, but cant think of any off the top of my head) then have the students go outside and hold each others hips or shoulders in a "conga line" type deal, to form one long "caterpillar" have them go up the stairs and thru sand or whatever is on your playground or in your classroom… this will help with their eye and foot coordination as well as working together as a group…. hope this helps.. as an art you can make caterpillars too, with like 5 circles glued together or the classic egg carton caterpillar…

Preschool lesson - combining manners and a foreign language?

Posted on October 27th, 2009 by admin

I need to give a preschool lesson on manners while incorporating a foreign language such as French or Spanish (for example, a game that teaches a simple phrase like, "s’il vous plait" or something like that.) Any thoughts on games or activities I could do?
Simple is better.
Thanks!

You could do a simple matching game. Hand out cards that are different colors and then show the youngsters yours. Point to each one and say the name of the color(ex; azule = blue) then say the color outloud and ask them to point to it.

Include music, movement, excitement in your voice, and by all means don’t expect them to sit down!

Book about fall for preschool lesson read-aloud?

Posted on October 23rd, 2009 by admin

Does anyone know of a good book dealing with fall that would be good for preschoolers?

Thanks!

My k-1’s love this book, but it deals with seasons changing. It is old.
It is called "The Little House" The last name of the author escapes me, but she also wrote "Katie and the Big Snow" and "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel" Her first name is Virginia and she wrote around the late 40’s. The pics are terrific. You can still get copies from B&N and Amazon.

I need to teach a preschool lesson plan for 3.5 year olds and 4 year olds…?

the theme is valentine’s day and the letter is "g". Both easy topics, but i want to incorporate the letter "g" into the valentine day theme. the only thing i could come up with was making Giraffe hand puppets out of brown paper bags that are red, pink or white and instead of sopots, using hearts that the kids can glue on. Any other Ideas would be much appreciated. just to note, i only have 45 minuets to teach the lesson if not a bit less. Any ideas appreciated! thanks

That is a very cute idea - are they focusing on the soft sound of G though? We always focus on the hard sound as in goat but I love the idea of hearts for spots. you could even glue on conversation hearts for the spots if you don’t have any food allergies.
Good luck! Remember glue starts with G too!

Should I be a Substitute Teacher or Preschool Teacher?

Posted on October 13th, 2009 by admin

I am a FT Grad Student with a double major in CD and Special ED. In June, I will be earning another AA in CD and my CD permit. I am trying to decide if I should I continue to work as a Substitute Teacher in public schools or secure a position as a preschool teacher at a private school.

Preschool Teachers….

1. Are the employed FT?
2. Do they receive benefits?
3. Are they required to provide their own curriculum, materials and lesson plans?

Info and suggestions appreciated.

Yes, you can find full time work as a preschool teacher, often with benefits. Most good preschools have a chosen curriculum and provide most of the materials to be used. You would be expected to write your own lesson plans and you would find that there would be more materials you would want to work with that you would have to purchase yourself. (For example, I have a large collection of children’s books, music, games, etc. which I take to work and use when I wish to.)

As to choosing whether to teach preschool or continue to work as a substitute, it probably depends on your long-term goals for yourself. If you wish to teach in the public schools, teach El. Ed. or Secondary Ed., or make more money, you will want to continue to sub, as this will give you the experience and exposure you need to get that kind of job. On the other hand, you can’t beat the satisfaction of working with young children. You sure won’t make big bucks at it, but you’ll be satisfied beyond measure!

Preschool curriculum/lesson plan for each month?

Posted on October 11th, 2009 by admin

I am looking for a website or somewhere to look at a good preschool curriculum for each month. I have a ton of preschool teaching things, that I am trying to organize and I need to know what to do each month and what area to touch each month!
I have a good idea, but I would love to see an example.

I do a preschool with my child and a friends.

I use adaycare.com, I like how it breaks everyday separately, however the lessons are slightly repetitive. I paid around $150 for the year, including a CD! Hope this helps!
