Do preschool teachers write lesson plans?

Posted on April 12th, 2010 by admin

Since the lessons are so short, is writing out a detailed lesson plan necessary? What kind of planning do preschool teachers do? I mean, some planning MUST go into the day’s activities, but is it as formal as a lesson plan?

I do write daily lesson plans, and I suspect almost all preschool teachers do. I start by determining which education standards I want to address and what my main lesson/activity will be. Then I build the whole day around the standards I am addressing for that day. The entire day’s schedule and activities are planned out based on the standards and must be written out to the extent that a sub can step in and follow my plan if I should have to leave unexpectedly or become ill and cannot attend that day. I’m guessing that what you’re really asking is if I write out my main activity in the great detail that I did when writing lesson plans when I was in college, and the answer to that question is no, not in the same way. All of that information is there, but in a simpler format. It’s important to do all that when you’re in going to school though, to help you learn to understand and develop the thought process that goes into planning the day’s activities. Everything we plan for each day has an educational purpose. We have limited time with these kids, so we want every minute to be constructive, fun, and purposeful.

What would be a good Art activity for preschool children, having to do with Tree Houses?

Posted on April 9th, 2010 by admin

I am planning a small group lesson plan for my Preschool class (Ages 3-5). I am stuck on how to make a good Art activity having to do with our theme Tree Houses.

Thanks!!

you could use popsicle sticks and have them make their own tree houses. You could also have them tell you about their "Dream tree house" and they could draw a picture of it while you write on the picture what they tell you about their tree house.

Preschool lesson plan - doctor?

Posted on April 1st, 2010 by admin

I am working on a preschool lesson plan — theme is doctors. Any ideas on how to incorporate the outdoor play with this theme?

Get a big cardboard box (asda usually let you have what they get bulk things in, if you ask someone nicely!) and make it into an ambulance. If you have an outdoor play house, you can turn that into a hospital or doctor’s surgery.

Looking to buy some Preschool Lesson Plan Books..any you would recommend?

im look for preschool level. 3-4 year olds…around there. I want lesson plan books with all types of activities.. do u have anyones that you would recommend?

Please look up the NAEYC! Their activity books, especially the ones that are specific to certain subject areas, really focus on in depth, meaningful learning that builds a strong foundation for later complex concepts - rather than just memorization or cutsey preschool stuff.

Preschool Math Lesson Plans With Quilt Theme?

Posted on March 24th, 2010 by admin

I am in a child development class and we have to plan/teach lessons to the preschoolers. Next week is my turn, and I was thinking of doing something with a quilt theme. I need some type of math lesson I can do, and I was thinking about teaching them about shapes to go along with the quilt theme. How could I teach this? Any ideas?

Or do you have any ideas for math lessons related to something starting with the letters Q or R? Keep in mind the kids are 3-5 years old. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

An idea for the quilt theme: How about patterns? That is an important math concept for preschoolers. Give each child a row divided into squares. Have them create a pattern with shapes and/or colours or have them complete patterns you have started. Then connect the rows together to create a quilt. (Does that make sense?)

Hmm . . . math lessons related to letters? That’s not something I’ve ever heard of. Maybe make math folder games? My preschoolers loved those. Make or cut out pictures of queens with crowns that have from 1-10 (or whatever numbers) stones in the crown. They have to count the stones and match the queen to the right number.

For R - I’m stuck and out of time! LOL Something kind of like the queen game, only starting with R. I’m thinking rabbits, but am not sure what . . .

Need Help Thinking of a Preschool Lesson Plan?

Posted on February 16th, 2010 by admin

I’m in high school and I take a child development class where we teach the preschool class. I love it a lot, except I am horrible at coming up with lesson plans! For this week, I am in charge of teaching the letters Q and R. I was thinking about doing Quilt for Q, and Rabbit for R.

So I need lessons that could be in math, science, language arts, or art that have to do with either of these topics. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

in some areas there are stores dedicated to this. i now of one called 3Rs http://www.the3rs.com/
you might wanna check out the site or do a search for other learning/teaching supply companies.
They allow you to order teaching aid supplies, and even if you don’t want to order something they’re site might help give you visual aid ideas for this, sense it seems your on a bit of a time crunch.

I am going to start teaching piano lessons to preschool aged children, but I’m not sure where to start!?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I am going to start teaching preschoolers piano, but I’m not sure where to start as far as lesson planning goes. I’ve been playing piano for 13 years and I’ve been working at a preschool for 3 years, so I know what I’m talking about, but I don’t know where to begin, as far as what to teach my first lesson, second lesson, and so on. Can someone please help!

My kids loved using Piano Party by Bastien. It is great for the 4-yr-old age. I haven’t had success with any of my boys before then. Please don’t teach Do-Rae-Me. That’s how I learned and it really kept me from my full potential. They should learn A-G for the notes.

preschool lesson planning? any ideas?

Posted on January 12th, 2010 by admin

okay. i’m in 10th grade. my child development class is visiting a preschool this week. my lesson plan has to follow the theme of teamwork and working togther. so i thought we could…

1. read the story the crayon box that talked (which teaches how if we all work together, we can create something beautiful)
2. each kid could be assigned a differnet crayon color, and they would have to work together and share to complete each other’s coloring sheets.
3. the kids would partner up and stand back to back with their arms linked togther. they would have to use teamwork to sit down and stand up again without letting go.

do you think this is okay? if have any feedback or suggestions to offer, that’d be great:)

I think that it might be a better idea to get a giant sheet of butcher paper and let each child use their crayon to work together on one giant piece of art instead of letting them color on each others papers. Children have a really hard time with this at that age, and that the teacher might discourage from coloring on the others papers because that might be something he/she is working on in the classroom NOT to do. Preschool aged children might not get part three either…I think the best thing to do would be to present your lesson plan early to your teacher to make sure she thinks it will work. He/She knows his/her students best, and this might be the perfect lesson plan or not work at all. Either way, I’m sure she’d be more than happy to help you find an activity that fits the lesson you are trying to teach or even help modify what ideas you already have. Good luck! :)
