Can anyone give me a few tips on teaching advanced swim lessons?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

I teach swim lessons at the local health club. Primarily, i work with preschool levels..get your face in the water, big scoops, green light kicks…that’s what we do! Now, i have been assigned the HIGHEST level swim lesson. I have very little experience myself and I need a few tips and basics to teach and look for in freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly, back stroke..things like that. ANYTHING will be very much appreciated! Thank you :)

unit lesson plan using math and reading for kindergarten?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

I am writing a Unit plan for 2 weeks using math and reading. I am looking for a book that helps Kindergartners in math. Any ideas for books that I could look into using in my lesson? Im doing this for a class so any ideas would be helpful!!
THANKS

I am a Kindergarten teacher and I can tell you some of the things that they need to know in kindergarten to be successful. As far as a specific book, there are so many choices that it would be hard to say use this particular book. In kindergarten one of the most important things they learn in math is reading and writing their numbers (in CA it is 1-30). We also focus on patterns, AB, ABB, ABA…the names of shapes and solid shapes and to describe them (ex. a circle is a circle because it is round and flat)…name the days of the week in order…tell time to the hour…add and subtract numbers 1-10…and many more.

When you start music lessons from a private teacher, do you sign a contract or pay as you go?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

If you get music lessons through a private teacher (for clarinet), do you have to sign a contract for a set period of time (like a year) or do you pay weekly as you go? What is the most common increment for lessons (weekly, every two weeks, monthly)? thanks.

It depends on the teacher and the studio. Generally; the fuller the studio (or more advanced the teacher), the more likely you’ll have to commit to a certain longer period of time. This is because popular teachers don’t want to keep changing students when they can fill their studio with students that stay on for years. These are also highly selective in who they’ll even give lessons to. If the teacher has a doctorate and is principal player in the symphony, you can expect to need both a payment and a lessons/learning contract.

Most teachers like a monthly payment agreement. Some, usually in a school or professional studio, do semester terms of 4 months or 6 months. I know very few that will accept weekly payment unless you work out an arrangement because of finances - most want to know you’re going to show up for the lesson and you’re more likely to show up if you already paid for it.

Lessons are most commonly set up for 30 minutes once each week. 45 minutes to an hour are next common. Very advanced players often have lesson twice each week for an hour per session.

Any less than once per week isn’t enough time to ensure you make progress and to correct problems before you set them as habits.

My daughter is 5. I need to know which grade she should be in. I am from India and we do not have grades here.

Hence it makes it difficult to find lesson plans online as everything is gradewise. I feel that even kindergarten lesson plans are a little high for her.
Please let me know asap.

5 yrs old…that usually kindergarten…depending on how late in the year her birthday is. If she’s a Sept thru Dec. baby, then she may also be considered 1st grade. I would start with Kindergarten level first and then work up from there to 1st grade based on her ability

Lesson plan idea for science in first grade using the learning cycle method? Help?

Posted on November 14th, 2009 by admin

I need to write a lesson plan for the 1st grade using the learning cycle method, which is also called the 5E’s method. It has to be about science. any website ideas that may help?

Teacher.net is a good resource for lesson plans and lesson plan ideas.

See the two links below for ideas on 5E lesson plans. These lessons were used in a 3rd grade class, so they are likely too advanced, but they may give you ideas or could be modified.

Additionally, this website has some interesting interactive activities for kids that you might find useful in the future.

How to get over embarrassment from being the oldest in these lessons?

Posted on November 14th, 2009 by admin

I’m going to be taking swimming lessons. I know how to swim, but I want to take lessons to improve, to learn how to dive, and to become a lifeguard, eventually.
I’m almost certain that I will be the oldest in the lessons I’m taking. I’m 13 years old and everyone else my age that take swimmingg are already Jr. Lifeguards.
I know that it’s not really anything to be ashamed of, but I am ashamed. A 13 year old that doesn’t know how to dive! It’s embarassing!

Well, first of all, it’s not a given that you’ll be the oldest in the class. Who knows, there could be other people your age!

But if you ARE the oldest, you really shouldn’t be embarrassed. I coach gymnastics, and there are always a couple older kids in classes with young beginners - and it’s great! The younger kids really look up to the older ones, and it sets a great example; that you’re never too old to learn something new!

Also, the fact that you’re older and more mature will probably mean that you’ll progress faster than the younger ones in your group. So it won’t be long before you master what you’re wanting to learn, and you can move on to more advanced things. Just keep reminding yourself what your goal is, and how great you’ll feel when you’ve reached it!

What are the best Electric Guitar tutorials on YouTube?

Posted on November 14th, 2009 by admin

I’ve been playing the acoustic guitar for about 3 years now and I’m finally moving onto electric. The problem is, I don’t take guitar lessons and have resorted to learning by watching videos on youtube. However, there are so many, I can’t tell which ones are bad or good!

(Wasn’t going to answer, but will because "butters" beyond idiotic answer - "idk, durrr… I just HAD to let the world know that…")

*** Digging through the info now… ***

Now these will be based on the people (who have varied vids), not necessarily the lessons themselves since I have no idea what you dig or want for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkP-l4tmkMk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reJSIZ3ugsE&NR=1

Here’s the Em Scale for that: (Great Site anyways…) http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_scales.php?qqq=FULL&scch=E&scchnam=Pentatonic+Minor&get2=Get&t=0&choice=1

Those two have several and should be good to get you started. That guitar chords/scales site should be useful also.

Mixed with that tabs, or course, are great:

And if you’re using Windows you can use "Power Tab" (Free) on some tabs:

How does Atticus’s lesson to scout about walking around in another persons skin apply to these incidents?

Posted on November 11th, 2009 by admin

In To Kill A Mockingbird, how does Atticus’s lesson to scout about walking around in another persons skin apply to incidents with Miss Caroline, Walter Cunningham, and Burris Ewell? How could she have avoided trouble?

i couldn’t analyze this for you because i read that book a looong time ago, but it’s an amazing novel
