Preschool lessons for 3-4 year olds?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

I am a stay at home mommy and have decided that instead of putting my 2 girls into PreK I am going to invest that money and put it towards educational things for here and just teach them 3 days a week. Being a Preschool teacher in the past I have seen first hand how Preschools just aren't everything they are put up to be and I feel I can give them much more. I do feel that it is important for them to get Socialzation as well So I have joined a local group that has weekly playdates. These are the areas I am focusing my lessons on
*Math (counting, measuring)
*Maps (states in the USA)
*Reading
*Home Making (folding towels, dishes…)
*Bible study's
*Art
*Days of the week, months of the year
*Seasons

What lessons can you come up with?
Anything I am leaving out??

Fine motor skills (cutting, gluing, stringing, stickers..)

Gross motor skills (hopping, jumping, running, dancing, galloping, skipping…)

Language skills (rhymes, phonics, songs, alliteration….)

Pre writing skills (using crayons, chalk, brushes,markers, unlined paper, envelopes)

Letter recognition (start with the letters in child's name)

Reading comprehension (stop reading and ask Who did what, when did it happen, have child read story back to you…..)

Computer skills (using a mouse, left click, click and drag….)

Music (keeping a steady beat, using musical instruments, creative dance….)

These are the skills I teach my 3 & 4 year olds. Maps may be a little hard to comprehend but not impossible. You know your children best. Sorting is a huge math skill your children will need along with making a pattern and adding on to a 2 part pattern. Cheap cereals are great for this skill.
Play is huge at this time so don't forget to have fun your self. Boxes are great starters for creative play along with dress up clothes. Have fun and enjoy!

What happens when a moron collides with a lesson?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

What happens when a moron collides with a lesson? Moron and lesson are probably antiparticles, so my own assumption is that a lot of energy is wasted, and you still have to deal with a neutron.

they bounce off each other. morons never bind to lessons.

Can someone help me make preschool and kindergarten music lesson plans?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

I was just assigned to be the music teacher at work. I have knowledge of music but do not have formal experience teaching. I work with the kids as an assistant but mostly work in the office. Any tips or suggestions?

It may not be the best answer, as I’ve never taught children before, however I have experience from looking after younger siblings and babysitting.

You HAVE to get the children involved. Children become bored easily if they aren’t involved enough, so try to get every child involved.
You could aim for the children to make a song. Talk with the step by step to what makes a good song, and see if they can make a song using either things found around the classroom or actual instruments.
I don’t think it’s best introducing kindergarten students to notes and such, but try to get them understanding rhythm by doing a simple ‘beat exercise’. Play a song and clap to the beat, then point out a group of children and see if they can carry the beat on.
If you are really looking for something engaging and creative, try getting the children to make their own instruments. It can be hectic, but it’s great fun for young children. You can make instruments like drums and shakers easily.
Another fun game is finding everyday objects that can be used to make music, such as a pot of pencils or pans. Children seem to have great fun making music with the most common things!

I hope I helped in some way, and I hope your lessons go well!
Cadz.

where can I find good lesson plans to buy for secondary education?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

Im a new teacher and I would like to at least have the option of finding some premade lesson plans and thought I would ask what the best options are.. from experienced teachers , thanks!
I did do a google search but mostly found things for free, which is great too, but I also want to see what is out there for sale that is good, some teachers I have seen have things with premade transparencies etc., not things they got online.

1. scholastic.com
2. http://pppst.com/ (Pete's PowerPoint Station) has both powerpoints as well as lesson plans
3. sometimes just a basic google search, you'd be surprised how much is already out there to be used

How many driving lessons do you need before driving properly on the road?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

I have just started my driving lessons,i`ve had 3 2hour lessons once a week so far and only just getting the hang of stopping and starting!I was just wondering what the average number of lessons is before you go onto proper roads and when i should maybe just realise i`m not cut out for driving and give up?

There is no average, depends on the driver, depends on the instructor, depends on the roads they take you on. Some people just take longer than others. I was lucky in that my instructor forced me onto the road from day one, so I learned quick, but it did take me three attempts to pass ( 1st instructor died week before my test, so strange car for the test, 2nd test was disrupted through an unexpected blizzard and I freaked and abandoned proceedings).

Change instructor, and perhaps consider driving an automatic to start with if it is your clutch control thats the problem. (slow down on clutch,change gear, and slow up on clutch.

Good way to practice is to sit in an armchair and pull your toes up and down alternately and slowlyclucth up accelerator down, accelerator up, clutch down.

hope this helps

where can i buy and take electric guitar lessons in maryland?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

i am 13 and really want to learn how to play the electric guitar

In addition to the others' answers, you should also ask anyone you know who plays guitar if they can recommend a local teacher. Word-of-mouth is usually the best way to find somebody good.

Regarding finding a guitar, here's my *strong* recommendation:
1) Go to a music shop and try out a few guitars in the $100-400 price range. I realize you don't know how to play yet, but just hold them, and strum them. Get a feel for them.

2) Make a note of any you like. Jot down the make and model, and what you liked about it (e.g. "not too heavy, easy to wrap my hand around the neck").

3) Find a USED guitar of the same make/model, or of a similar style. Try not to spend more than $200. There are plenty of cheap used guitars perfect for beginners. Ignore the elitist snobs who try to convince you that you need a $1000 gibson or fender.

Talk to your parents, or other adults to help you find a used one. I recommend trying (in this order):
* local music shops
* garage sales
* pawn shops
* craigslist.
* ebay

Have an adult help you!!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. DO NOT shop for a used guitar on your own.

Hope this helps.

What's the going rate for private piano lessons when the student goes to the teacher's home?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

I'm trying to find out what the average rate for private piano lessons is for a beginner student. It would be helpful to know what state or general area you live in so I have a comparison of different geographical areas. Also- what's the rate for having private piano lessons in your own home (the teacher visits your house)? Thanks!

It depends, some teachers have you for a half an hour and others for an hour. New York probably has the highest prices. I teach classical guitar in my home, and I charge $30.00 for a half hour….If I have a great student and they can't afford it I charge less, I've even taught some for free, I'll do this for students that I know can't afford lessons, but have great potential and are serious about playing. One student I had was a riot, he use to beg me if he could watch cartoons instead of playing, I use to tell his mother that he had no musical ability and had no interest in guitar but she still continued to bring him here for six months, that was one student that I would have paid the mother not to bring him, he was so cute, but not musical, he had bright red hair and tons of freckles, we use to call him Howdy Doody !!!! I'm sorry I'm going on and on and this isn't what you wanted to know but your question reminded me of this. What I would do if I were you is shop around, get estimates call different music stores, and private teachers that are in your local newspaper, even check with your local colleges, some students before they get their degree teach on the side for a lot lower price. I know the prices in New Jersey are a lot lower then N.Y. In N.J. it's anywhere from $25.00 and hour to $50.00. and even less in some areas. Good luck !!!!!!

I home school my kids, are there any inexpensive ways to get music lessons?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

My daughter is interested in music, but I have no musical background. Lessons are expensive, what are other homeschoolers doing?

When I was homeschooled, I approached the music director at my mother's church. For a fairly good price he taught me how to read music. Sadly though, he moved out of state before we could finish my lessons. (My sister had guitar lessons from the main guitarist at the same church). Just try checking around your church (if you have one), youth groups, etc.

What should I do to take at home guitar lessons?

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by admin

I want to learn how to play the guitar but I don't want to take online lessons or to go to class with others. How do I get an instructor that will come to my house and give me lessons or get private lessons?

You could buy Guitar for Dummies.
